We are a community of Orthodox Christians in the British Orthodox Church, which is part of the ancient Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria. The Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate was established in Egypt by the preaching of St Mark, the writer of one of the four Gospels. The present head of the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate is His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, who is the 117th successor of St Mark.
St Alban's British Orthodox Church seeks to be a welcoming place where British people can discover the spiritual riches of the Orthodox Christian life for themselves. We are rooted in the oldest of all churches, while also preserving our own British ethos and language. We have the same faith as the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate, and are part of the same vibrant family of Christians, but we serve all of the people of the Medway Towns, and our congregation is made up of faithful Orthodox Christians from a variety of ethnic backgrounds.
Though we are a small community and have limited resources, we believe that it is a great blessing for us to share our Orthodox faith with the people of the Medway Towns. We hope that you will find the contents of this website useful, and that you will consider making contact with us so that we can help you understand the Orthodox faith better. We are convinced that coming to know Jesus Christ in the Orthodox Church is the beginning of a transforming spiritual and personal experience, and that only Jesus Christ has the power to help us become the people that God created us to be.
We look forward to meeting Jesus Christ with you.
