Coptic Icon Gallery

Icons have an important place in Orthodox spirituality. They represent to us in an idealised and spiritual manner the holy men and women who have lived an heroic Christian life before us. They also represent to us the person of Jesus Christ himself, making an important theological statement that he truly became man and therefore can be pictured in an image. These images are not worshipped, but the people they represent are venerated and honoured, and Christ himself is worshipped. They are holy things because those they represent are holy and they are a means of prayer. Coptic Icons represent some of the most ancient which have survived, and they continue to be made and used in modern Orthodox Churches.
